    Camping and COPES Adventure Weekend

    February 24 - 26, 2017

    Camp Iti Kana/Camp Tiak


    Girls will experience the joys of outdoor cooking with Dutch Ovens and Cooking on Coals, while kicking back on Friday and Saturday night around the campfire, engaging in traditional Girl Scout camping activities. Girls can choose to bring their own tents or sleep in the cabins.  Saturday, girls will be packing lunch and headed to Camp Tiak (transportation is the troop leader/parent responsibility…3 miles south of Camp Iti Kana) where they will participate in the High and Low elements of the ropes course. 

     Troops must maintain girl/adult ratios.  Individual girls must be accompanied by an adult. 


    $50 for Cadette Girl Scouts and above

    (includes meals, lodging, COPES Course and patch)

    $25 for Adults (includes meals and lodging)


    Min 10/Max 20 (Girls)

    Have you ever wondered, “What a State Treasurer does exactly?” Or “What it takes to run for office?”

    Join us for a fascinating peek into the inner workings of the Office of the State Treasurer, Mississippi’s state bank. Your day will include lunch with the Honorable Lynn Fitch, State Treasurer of Mississippi; a tour of the State Capitol; and activities to help you build personal finance skills. You will also meet the staff of the Office of the State Treasurer, Women Leaders with Careers in Government, Banking and Finance, and learn about the different types of jobs they do.  Career Day is also a great way to expand your friendship circle and meet other Girl Scouts from around the Capital Area.

    Notes: Uniforms are required for this event. Due to space limitations, this event is a “drop-off/pick-up event for girls only. Girls will be supervised by GSGMS staff. Every girl will need a completed Health Form (attached to the registration confirmation).

    So, you have answered the call to action, joined as an adult Girl Scout Volunteer and you can’t wait to get her there, now what?  Spend some time with us reviewing the essential elements of the Girl Scout Leadership  Experience and learn how to engage girls in a way that promotes girl-led decision making, encourages girls to learn by doing and supports cooperative learning.  We will help you jump start your journey to learn the who, what, when, where, and why of being a troop leader and volunteering with Girl Scout of Greater Mississippi.  This training should be completed within 30 days of registering as a Girl Scout Volunteer.

    Girl Scout Olympics

    Get ready for a day of fun and competition at the Girl Scout Olympics! You will participate with your team in a variety of fun and challenging events! Some events are “Real Sports,” some are “Wacky Sports” and some will be based on the Minute to Win It game show! 

    Participants must be registered Girl Scouts and must be accompanied by an adult.  Troops should also maintain girl/adult ratio.  Bring a sack lunch and drinks and tailgate or purchase a sack lunch/drink for $4 (pre-pay online, ticket will be given at registration).  Water stations will be available throughout the day. 

    Troop leaders, parents and tag-a-longs are free, however, everybody attending must register.


    Who:  All Registered Girl Scouts can compete

              (Families are invited to cheer them on!)

    Outdoor Living Skills

    *Required training to take your troop camping.

    Learn the skills necessary to take your troop camping on your own!  This course is not required to attend council sponsored events, but it is a requirement for you to take your troop or service unit camping.  The training will allow participants to teach girls safe principles for hiking, building fires, and preparing meals.  Other basic skills explored will be knot tying, basic map and compass reading, and care of the natural environment.  You will experience outdoor cooking and using a variety of shelters.  During this training you will also learn the skills to needed to guide your girls through the Outdoor Living Skills patch program from the American Camp Association designed to help girls learn basic outdoor skills.

    Earn the certification that you need to take your troop/group canoeing. You need to be a good swimmer and to be comfortable in a canoe/kayak and in lake water. This course requires on-line prerequisite course work. Please print and bring with you the online certificates as proof of completion. Once you are registered, we will send you the link for the online course work.  You should bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water shoes or old tennis shoes that can get wet and a sack lunch.  This training is for adults and girls 15 years and over.
